Open casting · vertical series

We are casting.

Urban Operas produces Black vertical drama: series told in sixty second episodes, shot for phones, close on your face. We are building the talent pool we cast every one of them from. No agent, no reel, no fee. Two minutes and one photo.

Four ways in.

Every door is free, and every one is read by a person. Pick the one that fits what you have.

Submit to casting

Put yourself on the list.

Everything below is what casting needs to know who you are and how to reach you. Be accurate — this is the information a casting call runs against.

Urban Operas casting is 18 and over.

Take a selfie On a phone this opens your camera. You can also choose a photo you already have.

Face the light, look straight at the camera, no sunglasses and no filters. This is what casting looks at.

Free to submit. Casting only reaches out if there is a fit.

You are on the list.

Your submission is in front of casting. If you fit a role on the slate, we reach out at the email you gave us. There is nothing else you need to do.

What happens next

How casting works here.

1
You submit

Two minutes, one photo, no fee. Your details go straight to Urban Operas casting, not to a third party.

2
Casting reads it

Every submission is looked at by a person. We keep the pool organised by city, age and look, so you stay in consideration for roles that come up later, not just the one open today.

3
We reach out if you fit

If there is a role for you, casting contacts you by email with the character, the shoot dates and what the audition asks for. You will never be asked to pay anything.

What we look for
  • Presence in close up — vertical drama lives on your face
  • Range across love, loyalty, betrayal, power and family
  • An audience of your own is a plus, never a requirement
  • Reliability on a fast shoot schedule

Your photo and details are stored privately for casting and are never published on this site, sold, or used in advertising. Email support@urbanoperas.com to have your submission deleted. Urban Operas never charges a fee to audition, and will never ask you for payment.

Writer or producer instead?

If you have a script or a finished series rather than a role you want to play, there is a different door for that.

Casting questions

How do I audition for an Urban Operas series?

Fill in the casting form on this page. It takes about two minutes: your name, age, where you live, where you are from, your Instagram and one recent photo. There is no fee, and there never will be. If you fit a role on the slate, casting reaches out directly at the email you give us.

Do I need acting experience or an agent?

No. Urban Operas casts working actors, first timers and creators who already have an audience. An agent is not required and neither is a reel. What we look for is whether you are right for a role and whether you can carry a scene shot vertically, close on your face.

Does it cost anything to submit to casting?

No. Submitting to Urban Operas casting is free. Anyone charging you to audition for a microdrama is running a different kind of business than we are.

What photo should I send?

A recent one that actually looks like you today. Good light, face clearly visible, no heavy filters and no sunglasses. A phone selfie is fine. Casting is deciding whether you are right for a part, not judging your photography.

Who can submit?

Anyone 18 or older. We are casting Black vertical drama, and roles run across ages, looks and regions. You do not need to live in a production city to submit; we shoot in multiple markets and we keep the talent pool by city.

What happens to my photo and my information?

It is stored privately for casting only. It is never published, sold or used in marketing, and it is never made public on the site. If you want it removed, email support@urbanoperas.com and we delete your submission and your photo.

What is a microdrama?

A microdrama is a vertical scripted series made for phones, told in very short episodes, usually around a minute each, with a cliffhanger at the end of every one. Urban Operas produces original Black microdrama series and premieres November 26.
